Stylist Tips for Prom Hair Styles

Tip # 1 For extra volume, use your fingers to gently rub a few spritz of dry shampoo into your roots. Even if your hair is clean. This is great way to lift hair by banishing oil that can make your strands heavy. I swear by Blow Pro Faux Dry dry shampoo.

Tip #2 For even fuller hair, use a coarse or boar’s hair 1 inch brush to lightly tease your roots. Do so until your hair is “standing up.” Then gently smooth down with a boars hair paddle brush.

Tip # 3 Prom girls with finer hair can spray their roots right after teasing with a light finishing spray. This helps strengthen hair before brushing down. Try Phyto Pro Workable Holding Spray.

Tip # 4 To prep your hair before adding full waves or curls, apply a dollop of styling cream. I love Bumble and Bumble Styling Cream. It also smells awesome.

Tip # 5 For defined curls that will surely stay, use a 1 inch curling iron. After each curl, coil it up to your head and pin. When you’re all done, use hairspray all over, wait a few minutes and unpin. Voila! I like Bed Head Masterpiece. Again, smells amazing!

Whether you’re going to a salon or doing it yourself at home, it’s always a good idea to plan ahead. Look through magazines for ideas and decide what type of hair you want. Remember, well-done hair can be one of your best accessories.

If you’re going to a salon, make your appointment early (they’ll be very busy around prom time). Schedule a “practice” session. Explain your ideas so the stylist knows exactly what you want. You don’t want any surprises on the day of the prom. If you are doing your hair at home, the same rule applies.

Look through fashion magazines for ideas, and try to find issues that have “how-to” articles. Once you know what you want, be sure to “practice, practice, practice,” well in advance. The more you do it, the easier it will be the day of the prom.

Whether you are doing it yourself or having your hair professionally done, well chosen hair accessories are always a nice touch. Flowers or rhinestones woven in the hair always look special, or you might try something like a nice barrette, or clip.
